2005 Team Pass Percentage (All Plays)
Everyone knows who produced fantasy points and who didn't. We're looking here for foundational stats that enable us to better assess whether bottom-line production was properly supported. If not, we revise 2006 rankings upward or downward depending on the stength or weakness of the supporting statistic.
Here, we look at how often teams called pass plays on all plays. Obviously, teams with low numbers are more running back friendly. Those with high numbers are more QB and WR friendly. Obviously, these numbers correlate very well to won-loss record. But there are outliers. The NFL average in 2005 was 53 percent. The most intersting numbers below are those of the Patriots and Niners. Was New England aggressive merely because of their defensive struggles? If not, you make a great case for Tom Brady as a much better draft value than Peyton Manning. The Niner total relative to their record is the best evidence of just how historically awful the SF passing game was in 2005.
